Why are Regular Dental Checkups & Cleanings Important?

If your gums look healthy, you aren’t experiencing any pain, and you brush and floss consistently, you might be wondering if routine dental checkups and cleanings are really necessary. The answer is “yes!” After all, tooth decay, gum disease, and several other oral health problems can develop under the radar. Furthermore, the oral hygiene tools you have at home cannot remove built-up plaque and tartar. In other words, coming to our office every six months is crucial when it comes to addressing dental issues in the early stages and preventing others from arising!
What to Expect During a Dental Checkup

The examination portion of your visit will be with one of our experienced, compassionate, and friendly dentists. After they catch up with you (or get to know you if it’s your first visit!), they will ask if you’ve been experiencing any abnormal dental symptoms, take a look at your most recent X-rays, conduct an oral cancer screening, and take a look at your teeth and gums. If they notice anything in the process – whether it’s a small cavity or an infection in your gums – they will bring it to your attention and let you know what your treatment options are.
What to Expect During a Dental Cleaning

Your cleaning will be with one of our incredible dental hygienists. First, they will take a look at your gums, checking for inflammation and recession in the process. Then, they will begin the process of gently removing built-up plaque and tartar. As they work, they may make suggestions, like paying more attention to your molars when brushing. Then, they will floss and polish your teeth, and the cleaning portion of your visit will be complete!
If your overdue for your six-month visit or you need to get your next appointment on the calendar, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us. We look forward to hearing from you!
